Interesting, the design looks like it would be an ancient, stone-carved light post, perhaps with a flame inside. Yet you gave it steel, oil-stained colouring which makes it look quite futuristic 8-)

i really like this. the texturing is really cool, giving it a more rugged/gritty feel.

i guess since people on /. are giving their opinions on what it looks like, i'll go ahead and offer mine... it looks like it would be used along with many others to make a kind of (electronic?) barrier, with light beams coming out of the open areas in the top to connect together.

Heh, thanks. Yeah I don't know what it is either. I will say that it was pretty easy to make; it is basically a bunch of simple polygons, out of which I used other simple polygons to make boolean cuts and tada, funky pillar thing.

I never realized how easy to use vue is until I started using other programs; it really does have an intuitive interface.
